FAQ

Do modchips void my factory warranty?
Yes they do. If you have a new console and the factory warranty is important to you, then you may want to wait until the factory warranty has expired. Also note that this type of service will void any Service Repair, Product Replacement, or Extended Warranty plans you may have gotten with your console at time of purchase. UYC does not cover the warranty of your console.
Ok, you've stated that my factory warranty is voided, and that you do not take over the warranty for my console. Is modding my console safe then?
Yes it is. A properly installed modchip will not cause your console to fail. However, because you are tampering with the console by installing the modchip, it is for that reason why your factory warranty is voided. UYC will provide support for the end user, and will ensure that your console functions properly both before and after modification.
Ok, so what do you cover? Anything? Nothing? Am I just left screwed if something goes wrong?!
No of course not! All modifications come with a 6 month warranty on the modchip and installation. In addition to that, should your console require repair by Nintendo, then the modchip can be removed and reinstalled into the system on return from repair.
What does a modchip allow me to do?
Modchips allow you to:
  • Play import games from other regions. The most common imports are Japanese titles
  • In some cases, run homebrew software
  • Play backups of software titles that you legally own
Please note that modchips are not intended to allow you to engage in software piracy, nor violate any laws in your area. Please see the Disclaimer for more information regarding this topic.
Ok, so I've got a modchip, where do I get games?
Please see the answer to the previous question and refer to our Disclaimer.
No seriously, where can I get some games? Do you sell games?
Games can be obtained here, here, and here. I Do Not sell games. Promotionals may be offered at times where a free game may be a prize, but please note that in such event, the game in question will be an original purchased from a major retailer, and the purchase receipt will be sent with the item. Again, refer to earlier questions in the FAQ and to our Disclaimer.
What consoles do you service?
All consoles with the exception of the Xbox360 and PS3. Services may be offered in the future for the Xbox360, so keep an eye on the Services page.
I have a botched board from a bad install attempt. Can you repair it?
Yes, I do repair botched boards. Please refer to the Services page for more information
I don't live locally, can I mail my console to you?
Yes, I accept mail-ins. Please note that you will need to print, sign, and include the services agreement form with the console before any work can be performed. I will not accept an emailed or faxed agreement. Any console that arrives without an agreement will promptly be shipped back to the customer with fees for shipping subtracted from the installation fees. For more information regarding this topic, please see our Services page.
What is your address? (local/mail-ins)

How do I properly pack my console for shipping?
To properly pack your console, you will need to select a box that is 3 to 5 inches longer, wider, and deeper than your console. Use bubblewrap as your packing material. For heavy consoles such as the Xbox, I recommend bubblewrap with large bubbles. Not only will the provide better protection, but you will also not use as much bubblewrap.
DO NOT use newspaper. Not only is newspaper very heavy in the quantity required for proper packing, but it is thin, weak, and does not hold its shape. The weight of the console will flatten it against the box, and your unit will become damaged in shipping.
For filler material to fill in the space leftover once the bubblewrapped console has been placed into the box, you may use the following:
  • Packing peanuts
  • Unbleached brown Kraft paper
  • Inflatable Air Cushion Packing
Bubblewrap and Kraft paper can be purchased at your local Wal-mart in their school and office supplies section. They can also be purchased from office supply stores such as Staples, Office Depot, or Office Max, however I have found Wal-Mart to not only be cheaper, but have the items in a smaller purchasable quantity ideal for the 1 time use you need. Kraft paper is ideal because it is lightweight and not easily crushed against the weight of most objects. It also has the added advantage of not being messy, unlike packing peanuts.
